If you think Congress is answerable to you, think again.  Congress members are the ONLY ones who can vote to impeach one another and only by a two-thirds majority as stated in Article 1, Section 3 of the US Constitution:

The Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments. When sitting for that purpose, they shall be on oath or affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two thirds of the members present.

Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two thirds, expel a member.

This provision in the Constitution circumvents the will and power of the people to hold their representatives accountable and thereby destroys the ideals of a democratic republic.  Congress is also not subject to the same treatment under the law as the citizens they serve as illustrated in Article 1, Section 6 of the Constitution:

The Senators and Representatives shall receive a compensation for their services, to be ascertained by law, and paid out of the treasury of the United States. They shall in all cases, except treason, felony and breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any speech or debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other place.

That’s way too much power in the hands of a few individuals who are left to police themselves. I cannot see ANY reason that elected officials should enjoy these dangerous privileges as they give rise to lawlessness and total disregard for the citizens they are sworn to serve.

To assess citizen authority over our government, honestly answer these questions:

Do you have ANY control over how your taxpayer dollars are spent?

Does your congressman/congresswoman ever ask for your input about legislation before it comes to a vote on the house of representatives/senate floor or in a general election?

Do you, as the taxpayer whose money pays for Congress’ salary and benefits, get to approve or deny their annual pay raise or give them a job evaluation?

You are more than capable of self-governance.  To believe otherwise means that you feel someone else is more capable of directing your life than you.  In fact, if you are involved in TRUE self-governance, you don’t have the time to interfere in the personal affairs of others.

U.S. citizens have ONE legal recourse available to them to rein in Congress by amending the U.S. Constitution through Article 5 of the US Constitution which states that a constitutional convention application must be submitted to Congress by a two-thirds of US state legislatures to make an amendment to limit Congress’ legislative and congressional privileges but even that has a Catch-22.

Congress has the final vote on whether or not a constitutional convention will take place as stated in the Federal Convention Act of 1973.  The Friends of The Article V Convention are in a battle to get Congress to acknowledge over 730 convention applications that have been submitted to them with no success since 1893.  Learn more about this movement at the Friends of The Article V Convention website

We seem to have some crazy power struggle going on in our heads as it relates to our relationship with government.  Most of us believe that our elected officials are public servants who are supposed to represent our best interests and are answerable to us.  However, we also believe and have let the government control our lives and pass laws that are detrimental and unfair to citizens here and around the world.  To understand why our politicians act this way, one need only go to the definition of politics and politicians:

Politics:  to deal with people in an opportunistic, manipulative, or devious way.

Politician:  a seeker or holder of public office, who is more concerned about winning favor or retaining power than about maintaining principles.  Source: Dictionary.com

It is impossible for 536 people (the president and congress) to be remotely effective in representing and advocating for the best interests  of over 300 million people who each have unique needs and values.  To complicate things further, our elected representatives are ideally supposed to be public servants but are generally known and operate as “politicians.” Since the times of ancient Egypt, politicians have been middle management for the dominant ruling power but today, they would have you believe they are upper management when nothing could be further from the truth.  ALL industrialized countries’ governments answer to the central banks of their nations who set monetary policy and are answerable to an even larger bank, the Bank of International Settlements. For more information on these banks, go to the Bank of International Settlements website

In the U.S., the political system has been hijacked by the Democratic and Republican parties who perpetrate the illusion that they are very different philosophically.  Though their rhetoric may be worlds apart,  the utter disregard for their constituencies in favor of big business lobbying bribes and earmark spending is damning evidence that there is very little public service but a great deal of politics used to govern us.  Citizens only get worthless, generic replies that don’t address their concerns when representative respond to their letters.  Meanwhile, banks and big business get a face-to-face audience with politicians and also draft and influence the majority of legislation that citizens are never given the opportunity to support or oppose.
