I believe that the best way that we can agreeably switch to a pure bartering system is by first establishing a universal standard of living.  If adequate housing, food, medical care, clothing, and education were automatically provided for EVERYONE and EVERYONE’S labor held equal value, so much of the suffering around the world would be alleviated.  Think about it.  Humanity could easily make this a reality because we have tremendous resources both natural and technological.  There is no shortage of human capacity to grow more than enough food to feed people and there is already more than enough food, so why do we have starving people? There is no shortage in human capacity to build homes and there are currently no shortage of homes in the U.S., so why are there homeless people?  There are no justifications for these conditions to exist.

We have become enslaved by the thought that we need to pursue worthless cash to supply our basic needs when in fact, it is each other that we need for those purposes.  All the vital services and businesses are run by PEOPLE and without the profit motive, all these industries can operate in a compassionate and environmentally-harmonious manner.  The superficial differences such as ethnicity, religion, and attraction orientation should never get in the way of us interacting in a beneficial  way that benefits us all.

Empowerment Statement

Breaking the spell of money is not some future dream I speak of because we can start doing this right now.  There are already people, projects and organizations that are empowering themselves by developing local currencies and creating evolved bartering systems.

Below are links to some local currency and bartering system intiatives:

The E.F. Schumacher Society

Ithaca Hours

Time Banks

Local, national and worldwide bartering systems:

Money is a lifeless mediator that will become obsolete the moment we realize we can and must give of ourselves freely and willingly to one another for our mutual prosperity.

MONEY/ECONOMICS

Wake Up Call

Most of us in the industrialized world are compelled to abide by an exchange system in which we have no voice and this creates an insurmountable disadvantage for us.  To further deteriorate our position, we have been led to believe that money is real and we submit to the unbalanced rules set by bankers.

Somehow, we have let bankers convince us that the intricately-designed pieces of paper they print at will have more value than life itself.  Thankfully, it is very easy to see through the complex, deceptive illusions that surround money and economics by merely referring back to their meanings.

"Economics is the social science that examines how people choose to use limited or scarce resources in attempting to satisfy their unlimited wants."  Source:  Robert Schenk, Professor of Economics at Saint Joseph's College-Indiana

(Fiat) money is currency that a government has declared to be legal tender, despite the fact that it has no intrinsic value and is not backed by reserves. Historically, most currencies were based on physical commodities such as gold or silver, but fiat money is based solely on faith.

Most of the world's paper money is fiat money. Because fiat money is not linked to physical reserves, it risks becoming worthless due to hyperinflation. If people lose faith in a nation's paper currency, the money will no longer hold any value.  Source: Investopedia
