It has been over sixty years since leaders came together and made pledges of peace and cooperation to the citizens of the world after the horrors of World War II. Unfortunately, since that time, wars and all the tragic consequences that result continue to plague us with no end in sight. How is it that there are 192 countries who are members of the United Nations and yet nearly all of them continue violating the very human rights they declared to protect? This happens because the citizens themselves have never had a true voice at the United Nations. UN representatives tend to focus only on the interests of governments instead of the people whose lives are being affected by their decisions. Though we certainly cannot expect the 192 representatives who are part of the United Nations General Assembly to adequately address all the needs of over six billion people, when those six billion people unite their voices in support of the Charter of The United Nations and The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, leaders can no longer point fingers or play political games.
This is a call to action for every man, woman and child who wants to do their part in making this a better world. The first action you can take is signing the online petition (draft only) demanding that all member states of the United Nations honor their agreements set forth in the Charter of The United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This petition will be the first time that citizens worldwide will have their voices heard at the United Nations in such large numbers. Once you have signed the petition, visit the Social Engineering Network and partner with a UN organization or group that is working on the issues for which you have a passion and commitment to resolving. We can no longer afford to wait around for the world to change. Now is the time for the citizens of the world to empower themselves with the realization that when we work together toward peace and prosperity, there in nothing that humanity cannot accomplish including the challenges below from the Preamble of The Charter of The United Nations and The Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED
* to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and
* to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and
* to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and
* to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,
AND FOR THESE ENDS
* to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and
* to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and
* to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and
* to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples - Preamble to the Charter of The United Nations signed on June 26, 1945
“Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.” - Article 25 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted December 10, 1948 by the United Nations
